This is probably the most common question I get asked by hypnotherapy clients! There are many misconceptions around hypnotherapy and hypnosis and I will look to address them here!
You are asleep!! NO! You are not asleep or indeed unconscious! I equate it to daydreaming. You will enter a very relaxed state but with awareness of what is going on around and hearing what I say but you don’t care! You are happy and comfortable exactly how you are!
Its mind control!! There is no mind control involved in hypnotherapy! This misconception comes from seeing TV and stage shows where the participants are seen to do weird and wacky things. You need to remember that these participants have volunteered to go on these shows and so are already happy to make a fool of themselves! They are not being made to do anything they are not happy to do! In hypnotherapy I work with the client to find out exactly what they want so when it comes to the hypnotherapy the suggestions I make are based on what the client has told me they want so there is no opposition!
Hypnotherapy can be a very pleasant and relaxing experience and can assist with many issues such as low self confidence, stress and anxiety and fears and phobias to name but a few. If you haven’t tried it then I urge you to give it a try even if it is just to experience a relaxation session as opposed to dealing with a particular issue! Most hypnotherapists will offer “relaxation only” sessions so come along and give it a whirl! You will feel refreshed and revitalised afterwards.
